If you buy used modem, and buy a TM1602 look for ones without Optimum printed on them as they are stolen aka unreturned equipment. Their are no settings you can change via modem, again think you are confusing router. If you want one with jack you are limited to only TM1602 due to your speed. Now signal comes into play as you are splitting a line. You can buy your own and use Optimum's as a Phone Only with no charge. I made the mistake of getting a DOS3 complaint modem that has no telephone jack. Since I am also using Optimum voice I need a voice modem. I want to buy my own modem so I can stop paying the $10 modem rental fee and because I want to have access to the security settings on my end. I currently have 300/300 plan and I am getting no where near that number. I went into to change the DNS numbers and the web interface wasn't working again. Today I saw another optimum banner pop up in my browser which is ridiculous. One the router security settings are all on optimums side and as of the last few weeks I cant even access the via the web site. Hi, so I am really fed up with optimums modem.
